A Short Guide To New York Tourism

New York tourism is growing by leaps and bounds, with more and more people milling to this place. Fact is, come rain or sunshine, there is always something interesting taking place in New York City. So, there really is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ time to visit NYC.

That said, some people like to visit in the fall, winter or early spring because this is when the performing arts are in full swing. In fact, this is a busy time of the year for New York tourism. That is why big hits on Broadway become available in the lean months of January and February, and not during the peak season.

If you enjoy fine food, July and August is the time to visit New York. At this time, locals like to escape the heat by migrating away from NYC during the weekends, so you’re likely to escape thick crowds.

From early December to the beginning of the New Year is one long party for New York. Bright lights deck the city. People flock to the Rockefeller Center to see the giant Christmas tree. The Radio City Christmas special is also a serious crowd puller. You also find fantastic seasonal sales in New York during this time. However, anyone who knows even a little about New York tourism would warn you that this is one of the toughest times to visit NYC because the crowds are dense and hotel prices go through the roof. A leaner time of the year is better if you want to have the museums, shows and restaurant reservations you wish.

Lodging in New York is always pretty high considering that more and more tourists flow into this place. However, the economic downturn has softened the market somewhat and prices are more reasonable now. Even so, if you are on a budget, the best time to plan your trip is the winter season between the middle of January and April. The weather might be a little cold, but New York tourism is at a low ebb at this time and hotels offer rooms that are very affordable.

The most expensive times of the year are in the Spring and the Fall. Of course, families like to visit the city during the summers so these periods also see tourists pouring in. Even so, humidity and heat stop a lot of people from visiting NYC. That is why the local says that New York is at it worst between the middle of July and August. But, as a tourist, you need not be put off by the heat as this is one of the best times to get the city and its attractions all to yourself – something that is almost impossible when New York tourism is at its peak.
